Acne is a skin condition that affects up to 80% of people in their teens and twenties, and up to 5% of older adults. While many people recover from acne without any permanent effects, some people are left with disfiguring acne scars. While most severe acne scars are treated with a combination of surgical procedures and skin resurfacing the most natural, effective way is by using Bio Skin Care cream - a powerful and proven skin treatment that helps rid acne scars.

Laser Scar Removal

Scars form as part of the skin's healing process whenever multiple layers of skin are injured. The wound may result from an accident, surgery, a burn or even severe acne. At the moment, several new laser procedures are available to treat a varying degree of scars.

What is Laser Treatment?

The term "LASER" stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Lasers work by producing an intense beam of bright light that travels in one direction. This laser beam can cut, seal or vaporize skin tissue and blood vessels. Ordinary light from non-laser sources is made up of many different colours and appears white. Lasers, on the other hand, have the unique ability to produce one specific color (wavelength) of light which can vary in intensity, pulse and duration. The wavelength and power of a single laser beam determines its medical application.

Lasers have been used for skin therapy since the 1960's. Nevertheless, wide use of lasers for medical treatments is a relatively recent development. Recently, advances in technology have upgraded laser use making laser surgery a preferred method of treatment compared with standard techniques in treating skin blemishes, tumors, birthmarks, and facial changes due to aging.

New laser technology

At present, a range of innovative laser procedures are available to treat a wide variety of scars and stretch marks. The energy emitted by the laser stimulates the skin under the scar and causes the fibroblasts in the skin to begin to divide again. It also stimulates the production of collagen. This thickens the skin under the scar until it closely resembles the surrounding normal skin.

Is laser treatment effective?

Current laser technology has been shown to improve or put an end to red or raised scars. Recent studies have showed that laser treatments stimulate the production of collagen and improve or eliminate the appearance of stretch marks. Further research reveal that stretch marks slowly disappear over a period of time ranging from 3-6 months after treatment. Patients with fair skin and/or shallow scars and stretch marks have had the best response from laser surgery. Patients with pigmentation disorders, a history of vitiligo, dark tans or dark pigmentation may need an initial skin test for evaluation prior to treatment. Most patients do not require anaesthetic.

Some patients have indicated that they feel a slight tingling when the laser pulses, or that the laser pulse feels like the snap of a rubber band against the skin.

Laser surgery has been reasonably successful; however, the costs and risks are higher than compared with non-surgical scar removal creams and lotions.
