Facial Acne Scars – Treatments to Remove Acne Scarring
Acne scars are a result of the appearance of acne. This problem begins when the skin is inundated with sebum (skin oil) that is produced by the sebaceous glands to moisturize and protect the skin. However, outside factors such as hormones and stress can cause a spike in sebum production.
With increased sebum output, the delicate cells lining the hair follicle can be damaged as it makes its way to the skin's surface. Other contributing factors can alter the state of the sebum, making it even more harmful to the skin. These factors include a lack of essential fatty acids, which cause the sebum to become less liquid, and acne causing bacteria.
The change in sebum more easily clogs pores, trapping debris, and causing the bacteria naturally found within the skin to multiply. The body then responds to fight off these antigens and protect the skin with an inflammatory response that can actually further wound the skin. In their efforts to remove the antigens, immune cells destroy healthy, surrounding tissue. Furthermore, the irritation to the dermal layer also affects regular collagen production and can ultimately increase the visibility of the resulting scar.
Body acne scars come both as hypertrophic and atrophic scars. Hypertrophic and keloid scars refer to those that protrude from the skin, the second not staying confined to the wound's original boundaries. These scars are typically found on the chest or back. Facial acne tends to cause atrophic scars, those that appear as dents or valleys in the skin. Ice pick, box car and rolling scars are hard to get rid of due to their formation; as damage extends all the way to the dermal layer where the injury was, these types of scars are tied down.
Ways to Remove a Facial Acne Scar
To rid facial acne scars, the general regime of scar treatment won’t work. For example, injecting steroids (like it is done in hypertrophic scars) to make them flat will not help. In general, it is difficult to bring depressions up to the normal skin level.
To do so, one must regenerate new, healthy skin. Facial resurfacing for acne scars describes a method to bring up your skin. Resurfacing methods differ in the removal of skin but all have the general idea of a controlled removal of skin to encourage healthy skin cell growth.
Laser resurfacing for facial acne scars utilizes non-ablative lasers that send brief pulses of high energy light over the skin. The light changes into heat and systematically burns the skin away. However, you don't simply laser face acne scars away. Scar tissue is eradicated and fresh skin growth is encouraged to replace the tissue that was removed. For an accurate method, try laser skin resurfacing acne scars as little damage occurs to adjacent skin. For these reasons, it is often the preferred method for treating scars on the face.
Although there are other resurfacing options, they are not as successful. Dermabrasion for acne scars is a less precise way of regenerating new skin. A dermabrasion treatment uses a high speed rotary instrument to exfoliate away layers of skin. Similarly, chemical peels on facial acne scars removes skin with a chemical solution that makes the skin blister and fall away. These methods are typically applied to the entire face with lengthy recovery periods.
Facial surgery for acne scars might also be considered for depressed scars. Subcision detaches the lower levels of skin so it is less depressed. The various punch techniques are used for deep scars, especially ice pick. These procedures (punch excision, punch excision plus skin grafting and punch elevation) remove the tissue with the scar. They differ in if, depending on the procedure, the next step involves suturing or replacement of the remaining tissue.
Dermal fillers are a temporary solution for facial acne scars, raising lowered areas for a period of time, but requiring repeated injections as time goes on.
The most effective method in facial acne scar removal will be a preventative acne treatment. Our cream is a facial skin cream especially made for severe acne that focuses on the root causes. Its base consists of the glycoconjugates collected from the land snail Helix Aspersa Müller that heals injuries to the follicle, helps manage the body's inflammatory response and further assists in healing at the site of acne lesions. Furthermore, armed with other natural ingredients, it slows sebum production, gets rid of facial acne scars and jump-starts the body’s natural skin regeneration processes.
